According to the United Nations, just 9% of all plastic waste ever produced globally has been recycled. A report by IIT Kanpur (2006) found there is a potential of preventing at least 15,000 MT of waste generated every day from reaching landfills. As per a study conducted by Columbia University in 2012, India also had the highest recycling rates for plastic PET bottles. This has been made possible only due to the efficient kabaadiwalla system prevalent in our country. Each one of us should dispose of all our recyclable waste responsibly. Make sure you arrange for a scrap dealer to visit your houses at regular intervals.

If for any reason you are not being able to connect with these cleanliness workers, here is a list of startups that work towards the same goal in a more organized manner. They will collect your household waste from your dor step, pay you for it and ensure that it is recycled to something useful. I have tried to cover startups in major cities.   India is the 2nd largest producer( 857,000 tons ) of tea in the world. Around 80% of the total tea produced in India is consumed by the domestic population. Imagine the amount of tea leaves dumped every day. Wouldn't it be great if you could use this waste for somethiing benefitial? A win-win secret for both, you and the earth will be revealed  as you read on! You can use tea leaves directly as a fertilizer for your plants . Tea has nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium(NPK) the same contents a store-bought fertilizer will have. Steps to use :  Wash and dry the tea leaves in the sieve itself, before adding them to a container. It is better to sprinkle dried leaves since it is easier to estimate the amount you are adding and it does not attract flies. You can add 4-5 teaspoons to each plant once in 10 days.
